[ artist's statement ]
Art enthusiasts have called my work exquisite and poetic. I just enjoy painting and hope to inspire art lovers with paintings of special places and beings that are full of what I call “ the pulse of life”. Whether I am painting a mare and her foal galloping in tandem, sunlight streaming though oak branches or Holsteins relaxing on a summer evening, the underlying theme is the power of connection and presence or "the pulse of life".
First, comes my connection to the image. The image must speak to me in a powerful and intriguing way to sustain the commitment necessary to paint with great focus over a long period of time. Next, comes
the idea of connection in the subject matter. Is this image not just portrait of a child but a conveyance of a complex and treasured relationship? Is this just a painting of a cow? Or is the cow some how speaking to the viewer? Is this a painting of a horse? Or is
it a testament to the deep bond and years in training between the horse and owner. Last, is the connection between the viewer and the art piece. Does it speak to the viewer in a deep, compelling way? Does it pull an emotional response from the viewer? If the
answer is "yes!", then I have come full circle. Jewel Kishmirian
